Our amazing team
Adventure Apes is a small company with a big network. Our extended team – each with their unique experiences and personality – allows us to design tailor-made adventures led by experts in their field.
Heidi: Owner and lead adventure guide
English, Finnish
I am the owner and lead adventure guide of Adventure Apes. I love adventures both in nature and cities. Planning the adventure of your dreams is my favourite job. I am very flexible except when it comes to safety. The safety of my adventurers and my team is my number one priority.
My favorite activity is snow shoeing but I also love to enjoy the silence of the nature. I could watch the fire, waves or the Northern Lights for hours and hours. Would you like to join me?
Poorani: Travel Coordinator
English
I am a travel and tourism professional/student from India, living in Finland since 2022. Since my arrival, Finland has amazed me with its nature, societal values and practices. This led me to where I am now, focused on creating educational and responsible travel and tourism products for the international community.Â
At Adventure Apes, I have cultivated the skills of collaboration and networking which reflects upon my ideas of responsible and sustainable tourism. I wish to continue to share, collaborate, learn and grow together with the global citizens and create a sense of community through travel.
Eetu: Adventure Educator
Finnish
I am an adventure educator. For me, nature and adventures aren’t just about the experience, but a way to learn about yourself and strengthen your character.
At Adventure Apes I have found a community which shares theses values with me.
I hope to learn a lot together!
Patrick: Wilderness Guide & Forest Mind Guide
English
I’m Patrick, a nature enthusiast and a Forest Mind guide, originally from the UK but I am now proud to call Finland my home. My passion for exploring the outdoors led me to become a certified nature guide, allowing me to share the magic of Finland’s natural wonders with fellow adventurers.
In addition to guiding, I find joy in cooking, especially amidst the beauty of nature. Crafting tours around cooking in the wilderness truly excites me, blending my love for food with the great outdoors.
Beyond guiding, I am a part-time photographer, capturing the enchanting landscapes and the captivating Northern Lights. My love for astronomy adds a cosmic touch to my adventures.
Working with children and young adults is another one of my delights. Collaborating with Adventure Apes for their educational tours has been a wonderful opportunity to combine education with the beauty of nature.Â
Steve: Canoeing/Kayaking guide and Mountain Leader
English
I am a Canoe/Sea-kayak Guide and coach, International Mountain Leader and Finnish Wilderness Guide. I have worked and travelled in mostly Northern countries and am also a qualified teacher of Outdoor Education.
Ziva: Wilderness & Ski Guide
English
I am originally from Slovenia but somehow ended up in Finland, fell in love with the country and never left. I am a youth worker with almost a decade of youth work and childcare experience now focusing on outdoor education.
You can either find me outdoors, hiding inside playing board games or working on some creative project. My goal is to help others find their passions just as I did mine.
With Adventure Apes I found a company that shares my values of education and sustainability and it is always a pleasure to collaborate with them.
Jarno: Specialist in Accessible Adventure
English, Finnish
Jarno is our specialist in accessible sports and adventure. Little did he know what to expect when he began coaching wheelchair dancers in 2010. He was curious to try the wheelchair himself and the rest of history. Jarno has been performing with the wheelchair also on international level and all the way to India and Nepal. His wheelchair dancing students have won the Finnish Masters several times and also performed well in the finals of European Masters.
Jarno has gained most of his accessible sports experience while leading people with cerebral palsy but he achieved well also while planning and organising a-four-day-adventure camp for people with visual and hearing impairments in 2019. This camp included various kinds of activities such as dancing, rowing with special kind of traditional Finnish church boats, hiking and relaxing.
Heidi & Costi: Experience Consultants for Visually Impaired Adventures
Finnish
Despite your visual impairity you can dream big. Experiencing nature itself as well as nature based activities are the right of everyone. I am more than happy to create and support nature adventures and tours for visually impaired people as I think that nature belongs to everyone. I love to share my experiences and am willing to help according to my best ability. Being blind can sometimes make you slower than others but it is not a problem we would not be able to overcome.
I am completely blind and I am adventuring together with my guide dog Costi. I love challenging myself in nature but I also enjoy making a fire, silence, learning about nature’s wonders by using my all senses like listening, touching, smelling and tasting. I am a big fan of bird tours and I am passionate about recording birds singing. The more I spend my time in nature, the more I dream. I dream about nature activities I thought would not be possible for me to do because of my disability. At Adventure Apes I have learnt that if you tell all your dreams out loud your dreams might come true. Why don’t you tell your dreams to us and we can start achieving them together.
Päivi: Open Water Swimming Guide, SUP Instructor and Beach Lifeguard
English, Swedish, Finnish
I am an open water swimming guide, SUP instructor and beach lifeguard. I work in nature and cultural tourism projects and in my own company Kiara Oy. My passion is to go on adventures in Finland’s amazing waters.
I have written the book Swimming trekking in Finland (2023), where I present great swimming spots and routes and give safety and equipment tips for open water and winter swimming.
I have written about Finland’s great swimming spots for Outdoor Swimmer magazine, among others, and have organised open water swimming events and wild swimming trips. I like to teach swimming techniques and guide swimmers to find a relaxed, efficient and own style of swimming. I belong to the Cold Sisters group, whose members creatively combine swimming with activities in different fields.
I am active on social media (@wildswimmingfinland), where my mission is to invite people to the natural waters and share my experiences of water experiences with others.
I have experience racing in pool, open water and cold water.
Emeline: Finland tour guide and official Helsinki guide
English, French
I am originally from France and have lived in Helsinki with my family for more than five years. Finnish culture and nature hold a special place in my heart. Getting to know Finnish Design, hiking in a National Park and swimming in one of Finland’s beautiful lakes after sauna are among my favorite experiences to share with other adventurers.
Chris: dedicated to guiding and coaching you to become the safest, most skilled, and confident version of yourself
English
Based in Kuusamo, Finland, I am a professional wilderness guide and educator with the unique advantage of holding both British and Finnish citizenship.
My academic background includes extensive study and teaching of Outdoor Education at universities, schools and outdoor centres in both Finland and the UK.
With years of hands-on experience and advanced training, I am passionate about sharing my knowledge to inspire others. My focus is on prioritizing safety while fostering a deeper connection with the natural world. I hold several high-level coaching certifications in land and water-based adventure activities, including mountain leadership, climbing, rafting, and sailing. Among my proudest achievements is being an Advanced Open Canoe and Sea kayak Leader accredited by Paddle UK.
I am a highly experienced winter guide passionate about the winter arctic landscape. Snowshoeing, ski touring and dog sledding or just playing in the snow! My other great delight is Bushcraft whatever the season.
My goal is to teach you how to stay safe, tread lightly, and leave nothing but footprints behind.
I look forward to embarking on this journey with you.
Andy the Ape: Official mascot of family tours
Any language
My family is from the jungle but I have lived in Finland with the Adventure Apes Team for most of my life. Sometimes I’m a senior advisor (I’m really good at listening) but my favorite thing to do is to meet families and school groups and teach them all about the plants and animals in Finland as well as survival skills and what it is like to grow up here.
I love geocaching, ice fishing, sledding (kids usually pull me through the snow, it’s so much fun!) as well as relaxing by the fire with a warm cup of hot chocolate.
