In March 2024 we organized a FAM trip showcasing our ski expeditions in Ruka-Kuusamo region. One of the participants, a professional adventurer, author and travel blogger Jan Fokke Oosterhof has eloquently put together this travelogue describing the whole experience.
Hi Jan! Come on in, we're making a fire! These are the words I'm greeted with as I step out of the van that took me from the airport to Adventure Apes Lodge , an outdoor events agency housed in a former school building. No elaborate reception, just a quick fire. It illustrates how important fire is for surviving in the wilderness of polar Finland. Fire provides warmth three ways: chopping wood, hauling wood, and burning it.
