In October 2021, Adventure Apes took part in the Regenerative Tourism – Building a Healthy Tourism in the Nordics conference, hosted by NORA, Visit Faroe Islands, and NATA. The event gathered tourism professionals from across the Nordic region to explore how travel can be reimagined post-pandemic — with a focus on community, sustainability, and long-term resilience.
Adventure Apes’ founder Heidi Savolainen joined the Local Involvement workshop, where she shared practical examples of how rural communities in Northern Finland are actively engaged in tourism experiences. These included:
– Ice hockey matches between locals and visitors
– Berry-picking excursions led by village grandmothers
– International cooking nights open to the whole community
The message was clear: nature belongs to everyone, and tourism can be a platform for inclusion, shared culture, and meaningful connection — especially when designed with and for local people.
Adventure Apes’ participation underscored its commitment to community-based, inclusive tourism development across the Nordic region.
